A water-soluble cytotoxic laundry bag is a dissolvable PVOH bag used in healthcare, oncology and aged care to contain cytotoxic-contaminated linen at the point of care. Staff seal the bag with a gooseneck twist, filling to no more than three-quarters so it closes securely, then transport it straight to the laundry. The clear film with purple print identifies the bag as cytotoxic, and it dissolves at 70°C in the wash so contaminated linen is handled without direct staff contact.
No. The sealed bag goes directly into the washing machine with the linen inside, and the PVOH film dissolves completely at 70°C during the wash cycle. This touch-free process means staff never handle cytotoxic-contaminated linen at the machine, which is the core infection-control benefit for hospitals, oncology units and aged care laundries.
No. The bag is room temperature stable and only breaks down when exposed to sustained hot water above 70°C, so ambient humidity, cool water and brief contact with damp linen will not trigger it during normal handling or storage. Store the bags in a cool, dry place away from direct moisture, steam and heat to keep them performing reliably.
No. PVOH (polyvinyl alcohol) dissolves completely into water and leaves no microplastics and no residue on the linen or inside the washing machine. It is fully biodegradable and marine safe, so the dissolvable cytotoxic bag removes single-use plastic from the laundry process while supporting infection control and sustainability goals.
Stored correctly in a cool, dry place away from moisture and direct sunlight, PVOH cytotoxic laundry bags have a shelf life of 5 years or more. PVOH shares the same long-term storage characteristics as conventional LDPE and HDPE film, so the bag does not degrade with age and stays stable until you are ready to use it. Only sustained hot water above 70°C will dissolve the bag, not the ambient humidity present in normal storage.
