Frequently Asked Questions
What is sugarcane bagasse?+

Bagasse is the fibre left over after sugarcane stalks are crushed to extract juice. Instead of going to waste, this agricultural by-product is processed into strong, rigid plates. Using bagasse reduces reliance on virgin timber and plastic while turning a waste stream into a functional product.

Are these plates certified compostable?+

Yes. These plates are certified home compostable and certified industrially compostable. Home composting means they break down in a backyard compost bin without requiring industrial processing. Industrial composting via a commercial facility is also an option.

Are these plates food grade?+

Yes. These plates are food grade certified and suitable for direct contact with hot and cold food, oily foods, and wet foods. The bagasse material is naturally oil and water resistant.

When should I use the 7 inch instead of the 9 inch plate?+

Use the 7 inch (180mm) for entrées, desserts, and sides where a full main-meal-sized plate would look oversized. Use the 9 inch (230mm) for standard main meals. Both are the same sugarcane bagasse material with the same certifications.

What is your lead time for orders?+
